Geese
Today I almost hit a goose while riding my bike on the bike path on the way to work. The look on its face and the way it ducked its head and braced for impact is one of the saddest things I’ve ever seen. Thankfully an accident was averted. Criterion update
I watched the 1946 French film “Beauty and the Beast” last night and it was good. Very sweet, once you get past the whole notion of a beast kidnapping a woman and keeping her locked in his castle.

A Book and a Movie
Watched Amarcord last night. I know I had a headache while watching this, so that didn’t help, but Fellini, I still don’t get you. It was a decent film and probably deserves a second viewing, but I have a few hundred other Criterion films to watch, so I probably won’t get around to it.

Criterion update
Watched two films this weekend: The Lady Vanishes and The Exterminating Angel. Both were so-so. Not bad, but not fantastic. The Exterminating Angel is one of the few Mexican films in the Criterion Collection and The Lady Vanishes is an early Hitchcock film (1938). Both films suffered from what I believe were slow starts.
